Your tools, your materials, your finished work: everything that goes into making your craft business run. This optional cover protects it all against loss, damage or theft.
We know that behind every craft stall or small craft business there’s a significant investment in materials bought, products made, tools accumulated, and equipment used to trade. But what if that stock was damaged at a fair, tools were stolen from a car, or a laptop was lost on the way to an event?
Business and stock cover gives you that extra layer of protection for the physical side of your craft business. It’s an optional add-on to your base public and product liability policy, and like everything at Craft Insurance, it’s been simplified so you only insure what you actually have, at the level that makes sense for you.
The cover is structured around five categories of business property. You choose how much to insure in each category — insure as much or as little as you need. Your premium is based directly on the amounts you declare, so there’s no benefit in over-insuring.
Finished handmade items created and sold by you, or in your care.
Raw materials (including work in progress), moulds and templates used to produce your handmade items.
Hand tools, machinery and equipment and computer equipment used by you during the creation of your handmade items.
Event equipment used at shows to include electronic card readers, stands, tables, stalls and associated equipment other than portable electronic equipment. Furniture, fixtures and fittings, excluding buildings, fixed glass, sanitary fittings and personal effects.
Portable equipment used by you, including laptops and tablets, mobile phones and smart phones, cameras, video cameras and other media recording devices and accessories.
✓ Loss or theft of, or damage to, tangible business property belonging to you or for which you are legally responsible
✓ Loss or theft of money held in connection with your business, anywhere in the world up to £500
✓ Cost of replacing locks or keys following theft, to maintain the security of buildings or safes up to £250
✓ Costs incurred if a pre-booked craft fair, exhibition or event in the UK or Ireland is postponed, abandoned, cancelled or relocated up to £250
There’s no set level of cover, you simply insure what you have, at the value that’s right for you. The quote adjusts in real time as you enter your figures, so you’re always in control of what you pay.
We’ve simplified the policy so you no longer need to split your saleable stock from your raw materials. Just declare your total and we’ll cover it.
Business and stock cover is added to your base public and product liability policy in one step. No separate application, no admin fees for changes, and your £50 standard excess is one of the lowest in the market for arts and crafts insurance.

Stock insurance for crafters is flexible you insure as much or as little as you choose, and your premium is based directly on the amounts you declare. The right level depends on the total value of your finished stock, materials and equipment at any one time.
A good approach is to think about the worst-case scenario: if everything you had with you at a craft fair were lost or stolen, what would it cost to replace? That figure, combined with the value of equipment you use regularly, gives you a realistic starting point. Bear in mind that the maximum payout for any single item of stock or materials is £5,000, so if you have individual high-value pieces, factor that into your cover level.
Your business and stock cover protects tangible business property belonging to you or for which you are legally responsible which includes situations where items are stolen or damaged away from your home or workshop. As a crafter, this is particularly relevant given how much equipment travels to and from events.
For portable electronic equipment such as laptops, tablets and cameras, the excess is £150 per claim rather than the standard £50. If you have high-value portable items, it’s worth factoring this in when you decide how much to insure them for. If you have any questions about specific scenarios, our team is happy to talk you through what the cover does and doesn’t include.
