For those of you who cover Business Items under your craft insurance policy (stock, materials, equipment, tools) there is currently an exclusion for damage to any business item or money stored in any building or vehicle which has been left unoccupied, unattended or not in use for more than 30 consecutive days.

We’ve been contacted by concerned clients, who are unable to access there products as a result of Covid-19 Lockdown.

We have now been advised by Hiscox that in light of Covid-19 they are extending the unoccupancy terms to 90 days.

What happens if my premises are left unoccupied?

We normally ask you to tell us if your property is going to be left unoccupied for more than 30 consecutive days. Given the exceptional circumstances at the moment, we are extending this period to 90 days. We recommend to shut off the water supply to the premises, and ensure that any measures to prevent thefts are taken, such as locking away equipment and setting intruder alarms.

I will be introducing our first ever digital craft market from Instagram @ianwwallaceltd and sharing gorgeous pictures, videos and links to online shops, and also saving everything to @digitalcraftmarket as I go.

Birthday presents to buy? Fathers day gifts? Dare I say it, want to get really ahead with your Christmas shopping? Really sorry for using the C word there, but really, lockdown is making everyone think about doing things slightly differently from how they have in the past, and I know I’d be proud to support small independent retailers during these strange, strange times.

This next bit is extremely important, so please pay close attention. The first rule of Digital Craft Market club is, DO talk about Digital Craft Market club. Please don’t keep the market a secret, share this with any of your friends on social media or email.

Introducing our new digital craft market.

This is a virtual space where crafters can sell, exhibit and demonstrate their crafts, from the comfort of their homes.

Come rain or shine, customers can get a shopping fix in the absence of the cancelled summer craft fairs, and you can attend and exhibit for free!

You can represent yourself however you’d like to – if you want to make a video addressing your customers, you can. If you want to link to a live event on your facebook so you can talk with your customers about your craft, you can. This virtual world is your oyster. All I would ask is to keep it clean please!

Please send us a picture to represent your craft stall, and provide a link to your online shop (s) and if you’d like, you can provide a link to a video of you demonstrating your craft.

Then, when I confirm dates of the markets, all you need to do is to share share share, on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, send a link to your friends by email, just get the word out.

And don’t forget, even if you are selling online, you are still liable for the products you’ve sold, in the event that a claim is made against you. Public and products liability will cover you for claims made against you, if someone is injured by the normal use of your product.

Stay home, stay crafty

As many of you know, Samantha and I usually travel to our Verwood office for work. During this current situation, we are self isolating to keep ourselves and our families safe.

As a result, we are both working from home at the moment. You shouldn’t notice a difference when contacting us. You can still phone, email or use the new chat function on our revamped website. If you have any queries about your policy please get in touch.
