We need your input please

With the current social and economic climate being in a bit of a pickle at the moment (to put it politely) more and more people are turning to the handmade industry.

Whether it’s for additional income, or a lock down epiphany that there’s more to life than working long hours in a stressful job, or simply to get a bit more from a hobby, the world of craft is having a boom.

In order to help people out there to find us for their craft insurance easily, we need your input.

Please could you take a couple of minutes (if that) to complete a very short online survey, to help us find out how people search for craft insurance. If you’re happy to help us, please click here to access the survey.

As always, thank you for taking the time to read our email, and for your ongoing support and for being part of our Craft Insurance Family.

All the best,

Naomi, Samantha and Ian

Marketing your craft business

There’s no denying it, lockdown has made us all reevaluate how we can continue to do business, in the absence of physically going out and about in the public arena.

Many, if not most, have turned to online sales to fill the void. So now you’ve set yourself up with a website, or have started selling through your facebook page, what next? How do you get people do find out about you and your craft business? How are you marketing your craft business?

As many of you will read read from previous posts, we have started hosting online market through social media, to try and give you crafters a shout out, and showcase what you do. Now after two online events, we are finally starting to learn how to get the word out, so people can go looking for you online.

Now, this by no means we are experts – quite the opposite in fact. However, the amazing crafting community are always quick to help and offer help, and are constantly educating me on the use of hashtags and ‘tagging’ people in posts.

So, what I would really like to know is, how do you market yourself and your craft business? Where do you advertise? Which hashtags work best for you?

Get in touch with us on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter under the hashtag #ianwwallace ltd and give us some top tips on how you are marketing your craft business.

If you also wanted to share pictures of your work on Instagram using #ian_presents then they will be visible along with our online stallholders for our virtual markets.

All the best,

Naomi

Things are looking up..

With the news of outdoor markets being able to restart from next Monday 15th June, are you prepared to get going again?

Understandably, many crafters needed to lapse or cancel their policies, due to the lack of events, and thus the lack of income, but now that craft fairs and indoor/outdoor markets are starting again, is this the first sign that we may be able to return to some kind of normality?

Or perhaps this was the year that you were planning on starting a craft business, and then disaster struck and the world indefinitely put up a ‘Closed – back in 5 minutes sign’

Well, now’s the time. As the news that events are going to reopen, filters through the population, all we can suggest is, avoid the rush later, and get some insurance sorted now.

With us, it’s easy peasy, you just need to complete an online quote on our website which is http://craftinsurance.co.uk

And to make things more manageable whilst things get rolling again, there is the facility to pay for your insurance by monthly interest free direct debit.

Stay safe, stay crafty

Ian W Wallace Ltd Craft Insurance Policy Information

For those of you who cover Business Items under your craft insurance policy (stock, materials, equipment, tools) there is currently an exclusion for damage to any business item or money stored in any building or vehicle which has been left unoccupied, unattended or not in use for more than 30 consecutive days.

We’ve been contacted by concerned clients, who are unable to access there products as a result of Covid-19 Lockdown.

We have now been advised by Hiscox that in light of Covid-19 they are extending the unoccupancy terms to 90 days.

https://www.hiscox.co.uk/broker-centre/coronavirus-faqs

What happens if my premises are left unoccupied?

We normally ask you to tell us if your property is going to be left unoccupied for more than 30 consecutive days.  Given the exceptional circumstances at the moment, we are extending this period to 90 days.  We recommend to shut off the water supply to the premises, and ensure that any measures to prevent thefts are taken, such as locking away equipment and setting intruder alarms.

As always, if you have any queries on your policy, we are here to help, so please feel free to drop us an email, or give us a call.

Keep yourselves safe and Healthy,

Naomi, Samantha and Ian

Digital Craft Market by Craft Insurance

When: Sunday 26th April 10.30am

Where: Instagram @ianwwallaceltd and @digitalcraftmarket

Ticket Cost: FREE

I will be introducing our first ever digital craft market from Instagram @ianwwallaceltd and sharing gorgeous pictures, videos and links to online shops, and also saving everything to @digitalcraftmarket as I go.

Birthday presents to buy? Fathers day gifts? Dare I say it, want to get really ahead with your Christmas shopping? Really sorry for using the C word there, but really, lockdown is making everyone think about doing things slightly differently from how they have in the past, and I know I’d be proud to support small independent retailers during these strange, strange times.

This next bit is extremely important, so please pay close attention. The first rule of Digital Craft Market club is, DO talk about Digital Craft Market club. Please don’t keep the market a secret, share this with any of your friends on social media or email.

When you share the event, please ensure that you use @ianwwallaceltd and @digitalcraftmarket and please also use the hashtag #digitalcraftmarket.  It’s really important to do that to make sure as many people as possible can find the event by searching on Instagram.

Best of all – you can do your shopping in your jim jams, eating your toast and marmite, and your feet won’t hurt.

Can’t wait to see you there.

# Digital Craft Market

Introducing our new digital craft market.

This is a virtual space where crafters can sell, exhibit and demonstrate their crafts, from the comfort of their homes.

Come rain or shine, customers can get a shopping fix in the absence of the cancelled summer craft fairs, and you can attend and exhibit for free!

You can represent yourself however you’d like to – if you want to make a video addressing your customers, you can. If you want to link to a live event on your facebook so you can talk with your customers about your craft, you can. This virtual world is your oyster. All I would ask is to keep it clean please!

Please send us a picture to represent your craft stall, and provide a link to your online shop (s) and if you’d like, you can provide a link to a video of you demonstrating your craft.

Then, when I confirm dates of the markets, all you need to do is to share share share, on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, send a link to your friends by email, just get the word out.

If you’d like to get involved, you can get in touch by clicking here

And don’t forget, even if you are selling online, you are still liable for the products you’ve sold, in the event that a claim is made against you. Public and products liability will cover you for claims made against you, if someone is injured by the normal use of your product.

Stay home, stay crafty

As many of you know, Samantha and I usually travel to our Verwood office for work. During this current situation, we are self isolating to keep ourselves and our families safe.

As a result, we are both working from home at the moment. You shouldn’t notice a difference when contacting us. You can still phone, email or use the new chat function on our revamped website. If you have any queries about your policy please get in touch.

Sending out documentation in the post is tricky at moment, but we will find a way to send it out to you if you really do need us to.

Keep safe and healthy,

Naomi, Samantha and Ian
